OSX as well as Linux related code and resources in the latest Steam apps: Clicky Clicky Clicky!
There is mention of Postal 3 which will run on Source and has announced support for Win/Mac/Linux. So the source engine will get ported anyway... Or else it will be some nasty Cider port.
What really cracked me up was the post near the bottom that echoes my own sentiments: "i hate using xp via bootcamp basically only for tf2..."
It's also amusing to see the amount of Apple hate over there.
"ITT: OSX users being delirious.
Do you in all honesty think that Valve will rewrite all their games in OpenGL just so they can be played by a tiny amount of people on OSX (and Linux)? Get real."
I'm guessing that Valve has some numbers on exactly how many people are running Steam under boot camp as well as through WINE emulators on both OSX and Linux. I'm also guessing that it isn't "a tiny amount." Psyche | Raeln | Laakshmi | Valem
My guess is that Valve is hedging its bets against the new battlenet. Right now (new) battlenet is tied to only Blizzard games, but if it's built correctly, Activision may decide that it's a great distribution platform for all of it's PC content, at which point they start competing with steam. If Valve moves now and gets the distribution platform in place it will be much harder to unseat in the future.
I'm not convinced we'll see TF2 on the Mac, but you never know. While I'd love it to be true, your own argument about Valve having the numbers of people running Boot Camp/Wine/VM's etc can also justify the position that it doesn't matter that they make games only for windows, the gamers are still paying for the game and playing it no matter their preferred platform.

I'm not really expecting immediate ports of even the main titles (TF2, Portal, HL2), but rather just excited to see a major publisher getting into the Mac gaming arena. At the same time, if the source engine is being ported (and that's still an if), what's the ROI on porting their best sellers?
The number of people running boot camp/wine/vm is an argument for how many people would be sure customers to buy the Mac versions of any games they publish. What it can't tell you is how many more people would be using Steam to play TF2 if they didn't have to boot camp to do it... That's why they have market research and statisticians.
Personally I can say that I would be buying more games through Steam if I didn't have to boot camp. I bought the Orange Box when it came out. I also bought Bioshock, but haven't finished the game because it is tiresome to reboot when I want to play for half an hour. I contemplated buying Plants vs Zombies. In the end the PC Steam version was cheaper (by 50%?) than the Mac version, and I didn't buy either. If it had been available for Mac through Steam, I'm pretty sure I would have paid for it. Lucky for me it came out on the iPhone and I bought that for $3 instead :)
If I had the convenience of Steam on my Mac, I know I would have purchased several more games by now.
